What is Makusi?

Makusi Tabakalera Archives collects, preserves, protects, and makes available free of charge various funds, collections, and digital content related to contemporary art, culture, and creation. Makusi aims to inform, educate, and inspire citizens to understand and contextualize the different stories and experiences associated with the collections and documents contained therein.

RECEIVE AND ORGANIZE

It's an archive for learning and reporting. To the extent that any citizen or expert is interested in these subjects, he or she is prepared to enter into and learn through various topics of contemporary culture which are dealt with in Tabakalera.

REUSE AND DISSEMINATE

The archive also encourages its creation. The documents collected in Makusi are, as far as possible, licensed free CC BY-SA, so that citizens can access, reuse and disseminate the contents under the same license. Other content, on the other hand, has a copyright license that can only be reproduced and viewed from the Medialaba space. The content generated can be shared with Medialab Tabakalera by sending it to medialab@tabakalera.eus

FUNDS

Tabakalera

In this collection you will find information about the events that have marked the trajectory of the Tabakalera cultural project, the complete cultural program carried out since 2005 and information about the agents that have collaborated with Tabakalera.

Arteleku

Arteleku was a center for contemporary art and culture under the Department of Culture of the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa (1987-2014). The project was aimed at experimentation, practice and production of different artistic genres, with special emphasis on art pedagogy. This found collects the events and activities carried out in Arteleku and, as far as possible, the related documentation.

DSS2016EU

In 2016 San Sebastian was European Capital of Culture (DSS2016). The cultural capital is an initiative of the European Union whose objective is to promote the rapprochement and exchange between the different peoples of Europe. This found collects the information of the cultural program organized within this initiative in addition to the documentation generated.

STRUCTURE

Regarding its composition, the main goal of Makusi Archives is to present all documents within a context; for this reason, it embodies a hierarchical structure. Within each collection, in addition to various documents, you will find projects, objectives, and actions.

The organization of the Archives eases the search and discovery of document holdings. The organization meets two needs:

  • To provide a structure to the document collection, in order to reflect the nature of the organization and to reproduce the process of creating the documents.
  • To place the documents within a context, both chronologically and within the location or organization in which they were created.

Thus, in Makusi, you will find the following structure:

  • Goal: a challenge that extends over time implementing various activities.
  • Activity: different lines of work organized to carry out the goals.
  • Action: specific pursuits that arise from goals and activities.
  • Document: the outcome of goals and activities. In the case of Makusi, document types will include photographs, videos, audio files, texts, and images. Depending on the work done, we may also come across other types of documents.

COLLECTIONS

The collections gathered in the Makusi project are a way to better explore the content of the archives and to put together information on various topics. These are curated sets or performed content selections at Medialab Tabakalera which derived from specific themes, creators, or content.

In some cases, Collections are rich sets of content created based on a single fund, while in others, they are developed by exploring different funds.

Over time, we will concoct and make different collections available.
