The artist Jon Otamendi responded to Tabakalera’s invitation to carry out an intervention in its digital space based on an idea that involves the use of the security cameras of the building itself. The artist has done this using the Tabakalera website, with the result that each time we access this, different images emerge from inside the building in real time.  In this way, through the website, an image of the centre’s interior is taken outside. It is an image generated by the building itself, where you can see the architecture, the physical public space and the objects, all waiting. This work that he presents us with now is closely related to the project La palabra suceder carried out in Tabakalera in 2017 for the L’Intrus exhibition.

As the artist himself notes

Empty spaces as a consequence of the lockdown. What is not seen still exists. It continues with no one there.

The interior of the building. The stability of its space. The exhibitions and the objects, all waiting. The dimension of an image that surpasses the real (pandemic), as opposed to the concrete nature of an oblivious object. The qualities represented (monitoring of the world in real time in the media) versus disappearances (physical public spaces).

An example. Jon Mikel Euba’s exhibition opened on 6 March and has not been visited since five days after that. The specificity of that space continues. The possibility of tapping into the camera in that room. Light enters through the window, in real time. To put an image to the pause. To give plausibility to the end of that wait.
