Arrietty y el mundo de los diminutos, 2010, Hiromasa Yonebayashi, Japón, 94 min. OST (Basque subtitles).

We continue our summer cinema immersed in Nature, the main topic of the films made by the Japanese animation studio Ghibli. They already told us the war between giant animals and devastating humans in Princess Mononoke, and a 10 year old girl’s magical adventure towards maturity in Spirited Away. The leading character of The Secret World of Arrietty‘s leading character is a girl as well. This time, though, is a 14yearsold, 10centimetertall girl who secretly lives with her parents under the floors of an old household in the countryside. They have one rule: they can not be seeing by humans.

One day a new tenant arrives. He is Shō, a 12 year old sick boy. After his arrival everything will change for good. A pin becomes a sword, the stamps are decorative paintings and the kitchen countertop turns into a wall almost impossible to climb. The different ways the tinies use everyday objects transform the known into the unkown letting us rediscover and be amazed by the most little and ordinary things around us.
