On May 28th, masters of the 20th century. The Spanish puppet exhibition was inaugurated. It was held in the exhibition room of the Okendo cultural centre in San Sebastian, until June 25th. There was a retrospective exhibition on Spanish puppets from the 20th century. Its central point was the selection of the masters that have had a clear influence on later generations of puppeteers. Besides, in the exhibition, they discussed other figures which are not as famous, due to the fact that the Civil War and Franco’s regime later interrupted their path. We consider them masters because they introduced technical innovations, new aesthetics or original dramaturgies that replaced old models. And in some cases, the paths they opened became famous in Europe, through their tours or publications. Many of them were barely known outside the field of puppets, even if they had a close relationship with important figures. For example: Pablo Picasso, Manuel de Falla, Federico García Lorca, Ramón Gómez de la Serna, Rafael Alberti and Luis Cernuda, among others.
