World Puppet Festival. Kaleko ikuskizunak = World Puppet Festival. Actuaciones de calle = World Puppet Festival. Street performances = World Puppet Festival. Spectacle de rue
As for the street programme, the inauguration was the first offering. A big crane made several giant puppets, actors, bicycles and singers fly, by the hand of famous Belgian company Tol Theatre. On the other hand, during the last weekend, the Les Irréels company took its magic caravans to the streets of San Sebastian -specifically, to Okendo square-. These caravans fascinated children and adults at the last World Festival of Puppet Theatres of Charleville-Mézières. On the other hand, over twenty corners of the city were filled with small format shows, from morning to evening: Easo square, Constitution square, San Martin market, Koldo Mitxelena, Okendo square, San Marcial street, Alderdi Eder, Zuloaga square, Concha avenue, Trinidad square, Antiguo Berri square, Boulevard, Catalonia square, Nautical Club... As for the offering of shows programmed in halls, among the shows for adults, Spartacus stood out in Gasteszena; French company Théâtre La Licorne portrayed a Roman circus with live music. We also have to mention Red Earth Revisited, the result of the collaboration among South African Assitej South Africa, Dutch Speetheater and two local puppeteers. Another offer that must be taken into account is the best show award at the Feten festival (European Theatre Fair for Children): Oscar, el niño dormido, by Espejo Negro, from Andalusia. When selecting the works that would be included in the programme of the festival, they didn’t consider the quantity, but the quality of the shows and those that were appropriate for a wide audience.
