Stations of the Elevated

A film by Manfred Kirchheimer

Stations of the elevated, Manfred Kirchheimer, USA, 1981, 45’ OV in Spanish subtitles

Urban culture has its own myths and this film is one such gem. Shot in 16m at the end of the seventies by documentary director Manfried Kirchheimer, it is a portrait of the then nascent graffiti culture of New York and leaves for posterity pioneer artists of the calibre of The Fabulous 5, Shadow, Lee Quiñones, Daze and Blade, among others. The result is a unique urban symphony, the portrait of an era and an avid vindication of graffiti as an art form and means of street expression.
