Live connection with Rotterdam Film Festival

Tabakalera will be connecting live with The Rotterdam International Film Festival. We will premiere exclusively two of the films on this year’s programme and will attend -virtually the presentation and Q&A with its main guests.

The Man (Mesteren)

Charlotte Sieling, Denmark, 2017, 93', OV with Spanish subtitles, DCP

The film is set in the art scene in Copenhagen. Father and son, both artists, meet for the first time. Tension arises as the father, an established artist, seems to have no interest in being a parent, while the son is more focused on getting ahead as fast as possible in his own career – not on getting to know his estranged father. It is Danish film maker Charlotte Sieling’s second feature, and The Rotterdam International Film Festival will be its international premiere.

Something dark and unsavoury has happened in the life of Kevin, a 17-year-old teenager who moves in with his aunt and uncle and cousin Sammie. Everyone tries to help him, not talking too much about the past, taking one day at a time. But when something is broken it is difficult for life to ever truly surface again. Questions arise: What does home mean? What does family mean? What does trusting someone really mean? Belgian filmmaker Fien Troch’s fourth feature is further demonstration of her talent for tension and drama in this film based on real events, which combines multiple formats and is so neatly driven by the hypnotic music of Johnny Jewel’s score (Drive, Nicolas Winding Refn, Lost River, Ryan Gosling).
