Harrotu ileak. Erakusketa = Harrotu ileak. Exposición = Harrotu ileak. Exhibition

How do the young people who visit Tabakalera feel? What sort of relationship do they have with the building’s internal space? How do they use and experience it?

Under the slogan Tabakalera is yours too - learn to love it and defend it!, the Harrotu Ileak! project prompts a bidirectional reflection: on one side, it encourages young people to rethink the surroundings they use, thus taking responsibility for the space and an interest in the corresponding rights and duties; and on the other, it promotes reflection on the institutional level to define how and for what purpose its public spaces are used.

This exhibition in part of a process through which resident artists Oihane Espúñez and Felipe Polanía together with Tabakalera’s mediation team have begun a dialogue with the young people who visit the building, whose most frequented area of the building is the fifth floor (Prism).

As a first step, the Prism housed in February 2017 an exhibition with a selection of photographs about the youth identity of different artists, various images of youth movements and a video playlist. The photographs are now on display on the second floor as part of Harrotu Ileak!.

Following these initial interventions, the working group got in direct contact with the youths and invited them to create pictures of themselves in Tabakalera and to join in specific workshops. This launched a second phase of dialogue, yielding various projects: a video workshop, a Streetdance open training afternoon, a rap project and around 60 photographs on display in this exhibition.
